Rx Retail Programs
Prescription expenses continue to be one of the biggest contributors to rising health insurance premiums. In an effort to control your costs, we want to provide you with links and information to some of the best and most well-known Retail Prescription Programs. Unlike health insurance plans, where realized expenses are exactly that, realized expenses, national retailers can use Rx programs as a "loss-leader" or "brand-loyalty builder." Because of this, many of the programs below offer $4 generic prescriptions, which is less expensive than the generic prescription "benefit" in most health insurance plans. Take a look around, and see if you could be saving.

IDOI Changes Professional Liability Regulations |

The Indiana Dept. of Insurance is making changes to the PCF charges effective May 17, but is giving carriers a ‘grace period’ so they can update their systems to re-rate and implement the new PCF certificate. ProAssurance, the IDA's endorsed professional liablity carrier, will change rates and requirements on all policies with effective dates (New & Renewal) June 20, 2011 and onward. Primary changes for Dentists: - Dental Oral Surgeons: instead of having a surchage of 110% of premium, the PCF surcharge is now 135% of a Class 1 Physician rate ($2,648). The new flat-rate surcharge for Oral Surgeons is $3,442.40.
- General Dentists (all dental classes except Oral Surgeons): instead of paying a surcharge of 110% of their premium, it is now 20% of a Class 1 Physician ($2,648) so the new flat-rate surcharge for General Dentists is $529.60
- Dental Assistants & Dental Hygienists who were automatically covered under the dentist's policy are no longer automatically covered. The Corporation, Partnership, or Sole Proprietorship must be "organized and registered under State Law" and that entity must purchase seperate limits of liability. It would be this second policy that insures the Ancillary Providers.
NEW UPDATE TO THE IDOI'S RULE 21 CHANGES: per an email from the IDOI's Legal Counsel 5/26/2011
"Per our discussion earlier today, I wanted to confirm that the new changes to IDOI Rule 21 do not require a health care provider to incorporate to cover employees. Here's the relevant text: (e) Qualification for individual health care providers may not include employees. Including a d/b/a on a PCF certificate of insurance does not allow an individual to include employees. However, nothing in this subsection shall prevent a corporation, sole proprietorship, partnership, or any other entity organized or registered under state law from including employees in the entity's qualification. Our original draft of the rule changes DID REQUIRE incorporation, but based on public comment, and after further consideration of the language of the Med Mal Act, we determined that incorporation should not be required.
